London: Vauxhall Art Car Boot Sale

Hot on the heels of Paris' art-book-swap is London's art car boot sale. The "Car boot" is a peculiarly British phenomenon, not unlike a vide-grenier in France or a garage sale in the US. Billed as "the art-world equivalent of Kate Moss at Top Shop" the 2026 event featured over 45 pitches, special on-car and in-car art commissions, live DJ’s, performance and a multitude of art wares spilling out of car boots. Not bad, a chance to buy real limited edition works from well-known artists at car boot sale prices.

Le Salon for Art Collectors is going from strength to strength. The veritable dynamo Vanessa Suchar (Galeriste sans galerie) showcases emerging artists (mix of french and international) in private homes, an ideal setting that helps break through the many barriers surrounding contemporary art. Le Salon provides a comfortable learning environment, while letting art-enthusiasts imagine how a piece of art would look in their own house. Prices are affordable and clearly marked, and the atmosphere is without the pressures of a gallery.
Currently showing in London but with shows from NYC, Paris, the Hamptons, Rome and Miami I hope to pin her down next time she's in France having missed her at Slick art fair last Fall. No fan of the static White Cube I applaud her Nomadic qualities.
