The Jack Kerouac Project

Shakespeare_14

From the 29th of May to the 30th of June, Colette is hosting the exhibition "Until the End," where this year's theme is 'voyages around the world.' Several artists' photography documenting their travels will be shown along with "The Jack Kerouac Project," a clothing collection by Hogan. This clothing line reflects influences from the Beat Generation, indispensable to travelers that seek a free "on the road" spirit. A selection of new Beat books will be made available, such as "Beat" by Christopher Felver, which is a series of photos documenting personalities of the Beat Generation, and "Beat Bible" a 'photology,' retracing the complete history of the Beatniks.

JUSTICE - D.A.N.C.E.

Playing on IVY Paris' Myspace, we recently discovered a Parisian electronic band 'JUSTICE' --- whose music falls along the beats of Air and Daft Punk (when they were good). Even for the not-so-electronic-music-lovers, Justice's video is a must see, using graphic illustrative effects that are candy pleasing to the eyes.

For those interested, Justice is playing at la Cigale, next thursday, June 7th. Tickets are 22euros.

Art Channel, Television as Art

"Art Channels’ global artwork is an innovative concept in visual arts: TELEVISION AS ART. For the first time in the history of art we have an artwork that consists of modular media construction of digital video works that are broadcast via orbital satellites above the huge territories of Europe, Asia and Africa, aimed at large audience."

Art Channel consists of a live online streaming, diffusing creative and conceptual videos from various artists.

Galerie Magda Danysz vernissage

The Galerie Magda Danysz presents Jeanne Verdoux and Kosta Kulundzic. Vernissage this Saturday, June 2nd.Verdoux14

Come discover parisian artist, Jeanne Verdoux's drawings and contemporary art pieces covering comical depictions of random people from everyday life. Through her body of work, Jeanne Verdoux explores human nature capturing the attitude of encountered strangers in a similar style to Shel Silverstein. I find the New Yorkers on the subway to be the most fun and interesting, as well as the original surfaces used.

24h Cold War Slumber Party and Artist's "Backroom" Archive

Shakespeare_15

On a brighter note, the Kadist art foundation presents a twenty-four hours screening of films (see programme) addressing the Armageddon including Omega Man (1971), The Day After (1983), and The Day of the Triffids (1962). In this series of films selected and presented by artist Walead Beshty, the disaster scenarios depicting the apocalyptic imaginary of the Cold War and the fear of a nuclear holocaust frequently stand as a metaphor of social change and, particularly, of the alienation of American urban and suburban condition of the 1960’s and 70’s.

Delaville Cafe

15032007542 The Delaville Cafe is an ex-brothel with a beautiful mosaic ceiling and floor. Personally, I don't like the orange "contemporary design" section they've tacked on at the back of the bar but you don't have to go in there. Free wireless.

La Cinémathèque Française

Cinemat The prestigious Cinémathèque Française is one of the best places to see classic film with superb retrospective and festival programming.  One time almost home of the (bankrupt) American Cultural Centre. They must have spent all the money on Frank Gehry.

La Maison Rouge

Shakespeare_8
La Maison Rouge is a private initiative of the collector Antoine de Galbert which took the name of the small house, red, of course, in the centre of a converted industrial building. One of the focal points of the programs is to show the perspective and subjectivity of different collectors collections.

La Bellevilloise

Shakespeare_23
La Bellevilloise in Gambetta is the kind of community-driven atelier/cinema/cafe "espace" Paris excels at.  Billed as an "Espace dédié à la Lumière, la Nuit et la Création" it hosts both the Jeune Création festival and Slick contemporary art fair.
