On a budget? This cute and rumbustious little Breton dive in the Marais won't let you down.  Crazy lesbian waitress who fights with the other staff - for fun. Don't get it confused with the Tabac next door. I am not suggesting you eat there.  Great mussels and fries and other hearty, reasonably priced fare.

The Jean Bart burned down in December 2024. When I was in Paris in February 2024, the waitress was protesting the lack of her job by sleeping on the sidewalk and collecting signatures on a petition.

I have the full story: I met the owner last night over Moules Corsaire, frites and a glass of white wine formule. It was the Tabac section next door to the little restaurant that was burnt down caused by a short circuit. They are still waiting for insurance people to pay up but it should be opening in early July. Good idea to go by and support them with your business. They have had a lot of support from the local community but it must have been tough. Plus it is still the best value and one of the most fun places to eat in the Marais. the people watching is fantastic.

The Jean Bart Cafe is the center of our universe when we are in Paris and has been for 25 years. Our little middle-aged academics' hearts were broken when we saw the burnt-out half this past December but the owners assured us renovations would be complete for our summer arrival. Food and wine are delicious and resonably priced and the liveliness, the atmosphere, the clientele cannot be matched. We wish the Jean Bart family success and we will see them soon!

The Jean Bart Cafe Tabac on the corner of Rue St. Antoine and Rue Caron, Paris 4, has reopened! The renovated cafe is now bright, airy, and modern but the menu, the patrons, and the atmosphere remains the same. Try the confit de canard, the salade de lentilles verte, the cider from Brittany. Our little middle-aged academics' hearts have been mended!

Came across Jean Bart one night during my last trip to Paris. Had a wonderful meal of moules et frites while my friend had a wonderful steak. It was cold sitting outside but the food warmed us up. Dreaming of heading back there again to try other dishes.
